A feature-length documentary
Exploring the untold story of Matrescence as another adolescence and the power this word has to change global maternal experience.
Motherhood is the psychological and spiritual birth of a woman, a story rarely told - until now.
After a picture-perfect pregnancy, Claire is thrown crashing into motherhood. Reeling from a traumatic birth and little guidance, she turns to the internet for answers—and discovers a word that will change her life: matrescence.
From the red dust of remote Northern Territory communities to the frenetic streets of New York City, serene country of England and villages of Kenya, this film gathers stories of matrescence in all its raw, messy, beautiful complexity. Through Claire’s own journey of healing through songwriting, exploring cutting-edge science and listening deeply to the lived experiences of others, it asks: what if we truly understood what mothers go through—and our systems responded to that understanding?
